As we shared with you earlier, photography is one of the most common and familiar topics for our audience. This is not only about photography. Tattoo lovers also can enjoy this story. However, have you heard about the wet plate method?  This is based on this wet plate method. This is a talented photographer in New Zealand, who is known as Michael Bradley who used the 1800s method to develop her photography journey.

Before going to the story, I am interested to know you all about the wet plate collodion photography process. So, this is a photographic technique introduced by Frederick Scott Archer in 1851. This is a way used to take photographs using panes of glass which is covered with a chemical solution.  This is an old photography technique which used to develop the photographs in different edits.

Moving on to the story based on our topic, Michael Bradley experimented with this old technique to create photographs with a traditional appearance different from the original one. The most important thing he tested through this is that, using this method you can disappear or hide the tattoos.

Check out the original photos and the photos from wet plate meth9ods. The photographer has removed the tattoos using this method. Yes, this is the secret behind the magical technique. As same as the others he got this idea first time when he saw some similar photographs done by using this process. He worked on this project for a long time. During this time he experimented with lots of differences and noticed that for the people with dark skin, the green/blue shades disappeared.

Finally, the photographer stepped up with another decision to capture the images of Maori people in New Zealand. What he did is he focused his camera on them to shoot Maori people because they have traditional moko tattoos. And also it is identified that these moko tattoos are different from the other normal tattoos. It says that the skin area of the moko tattoos is very smooth.

Check out these incredible photographs done by the collodion photography process. Here you can see the photos from a digital camera with facial tattoos and the same photo done by the collodion method. After the hard work on this project, the photographer has the best result in his photography journey. Because the series of these wonderful shots are exhibited in the museum in New Zealand.

These stunning photographs express the feel of tradition and culture. Apart from this, the concept is a kind of inspiration to others. Because there are lots of hidden things behind our eyes that we need to try and explore in this world.

The 19th-century technique seems to “erase” the subjects’ facial tattoos, much as tā moko almost disappeared until a resurgence in the 1990s.

What I noticed mostly is, the photographer has highly focused on the people with face tattoos. He used their photos to remove the tattoos and colors with a new appearance. But as same in the real photos, they are very beautiful. we need to appreciate his hard work on these types of wonderful concepts.
